Cicadas are pretty ugly, but have you ever seen the insect (if you can call it that - it's more of a dragon) that KILLS cicadas? It's literally called a Cicada Killer. I saw one a few years ago and thought that something had gone horribly wrong with nature. It looks like a massive hornet. Here's a link to a picture of one: http://home.earthlink.net/~citybirder/images/Cicada%20Killer.jpg

Mike, now all you have to do is start breeding these beauties in your backyard and in 17 years (when you're 76) you can wander out back as an old man and set them free to eat.

Yup, Mike's a deep thinker. I remember when I met him he told me "I like to sit on my porch for a couple hours every day and think deep thoughts."

The cicadas didn't really come to Libertyville, where I live, at all and I'm not too upset about it. When I lived in St. Louis we had them there, and all I remember about them was that a kid on my baseball team swallowed one by accident and his face turned blue.

Creepy. Honestly, all sorts of heeby jeebies from looking at those things.

Matt was a gawky adolescent. I say that in the most loving way possible, I swear. Just saying, he grew into his body better over the past 17 years. Does that even make sense? I'm digging myself into a hole here... Point being: Cute new babies you've got there in that Leonard family! (You like how I spun that around and made it positive and distracting at the end? Talking about babies will do it every time.)

HAHA. Mr. Leonard it is good to have you back. I have never seen a cicada in my life in Ontario. They look quite disturbing though.

When you were telling Matt's 19 year old self that he had a cicada on him... I swear I felt something crawling on my shoulder.. augh.. Eww.

living in the city I felt kind of sad for not seeing any of the cicadas but hearing all the hype on the news. I found out that I wasn't alone on this when ther other day I was walking around monroe and wabash and saw a small group of people looking down at something ... so of course I go to see what it was

and then

there it was

a cicada! ...

just sitting there on the dirty concrete ... posing for the many camera phones in it's face

I don't know where I was going with this

i'm going to spend the next 17 years writing the most amazing cicada horror movie

so look for it

I just watched something on Animal Planet about cicadas! I didn't realize they would infest the suburbs though. That is so unbelievable! And even after 17 years the "You have one on you" joke is still funny. It's great to see you guys again and congratulations on another grand-baby. How things change in 17 years, eh? We are expecting our fourth baby one week from today. Exciting!

By the way, who was the random kid in the video who put cicadas in his mouth?
